Kellyanne Conway’s White House Infomercial

The New York Times editorial board:

Ms. Conway’s remarks, made from the White House briefing room, plainly violated federal ethics regulations, which state that an employee “shall not use his public office for his own private gain, for the endorsement of any product, service or enterprise or for the private gain of friends, relatives, or persons with whom the employee is affiliated in a nongovernmental capacity.”

Not only were Conway’s remarks unsurprising, they were expected.

Before concerns about an authoritarian takeover of the US government arose, word was that Mr. Trump was in the presidential race for personal gain. Once in office, he’s been quick to express his dismay when those plans go awry:

Trump lies about the past. He tells the truth about the future. About making money off his high office, he told us so.
