∴ More Disturbing Than Trump’s Travel Ban

Though Mr. Trump has been temporarily rebuffed in his effort to keep out refugees and immigrants from seven Muslim-majority nations (with special treatment for Christian minorities), there’s something more disturbing than his attempt: more Americans support such a restriction than reject it. (Reuters/Ipsos poll):

Kinda sickening how many Americans are willing to vest the supposed sins of the few upon the many. Factually wrong, too: zero killings have occurred in the US at the hands of foreign nationals from the seven countries included in Trump’s executive order (Cato Institute):

Foreigners from those seven nations have killed zero Americans in terrorist attacks on U.S. soil between 1975 and the end of 2015.  Six Iranians, six Sudanese, two Somalis, two Iraqis, and one Yemini have been convicted of attempting or carrying out terrorist attacks on U.S. soil. Zero Libyans or Syrians have been convicted of planning a terrorist attack on U.S. soil during that time period.

There have been attempts, arrests, and convictions of seventeen foreign nationals from those countries since 1975. There have been thousands of immigrants and refugees land in the US during that time.

Following the prevailing sentiment, but employing factual evidence we should let immigrants into our country from any nation exporting little violence, up to pre-existing immigration limitations.

An article in The Atlantic provides a handy breakdown of terrorists and murders on US soil, by country. The seven countries included in Trump’s executive order are bolded.

(Note the high number of murders committed by Saudi, UAE, Egyptian, and Lebanese terrorists. Those who carried out the 9/11 attacks on the US hailed from Saudi Arabia and Egypt, yet neither is on Trump’s list. That list needs updating if we’re to use it for excluding refugees – to hell with alliances of convenience. No-one exports more unbridled hatred than the Wahabist Saudi Arabia.)

Americans who support Trump’s executive order might have a look at the data, think back on US history, and admit their error. It’s only logical.
