Amy Goldstein, Mike DeBonis, and Kelsey Snell – The Washington Post:
House Republicans on Monday released long-anticipated legislation to supplant the Affordable Care Act with a more conservative vision for the nation’s health care system, sketching out a system of individual tax credits and state grants to replace the current law.
But GOP leaders did not issue cost or coverage estimates for their plan, which is still being reviewed by nonpartisan congressional budgetary scorekeepers, and there were signs Monday that fellow Republicans could balk if the legislation leaves swaths of the country without insurance coverage.
How many children will this ACA replacement leave without coverage? How many single mothers, struggling to keep their kids healthy? We don’t know, can’t know, because this “release” doesn’t tell us. The bill has been kept a secret in the bowels of Congress. That in itself is a disgrace.
This is the conservative vision for American health care coverage. May god have mercy on their souls, for as details emerge and they each succumb to age and disease surely they will burn in the hells they’ve professed to believe in all their years.
Oh, and this package will not pass muster. It will not become law. And the ACA, aka Obamacare, will endure, because America is not full-up of the heartless bastards who’ve crafted this attempt at a transfer of wealth BACK to the extremely wealthy.
