Glenn Thrush and Maggie Haberman – The New York Times:
After weeks of assailing reporters and critics in diligent defense of their boss, Mr. Trump’s team has been uncharacteristically muted this week when pressed about his explosive — and so far proof-free — Twitter posts on Saturday accusing President Barack Obama of tapping phones in Trump Tower during the 2016 campaign.
Not above their pay grade; against the law.
Of course they’re keeping their mouths shut. Their boss has either undeniably proven himself a fool, or publicly commented on evidence of an ongoing criminal or counter-intelligence investigation. This one’s a lose-lose.
If the former, well, we knew that, and now the rest of the world does, too.
The latter is itself a criminal offense.
Which is worse? It hardly matters – it’s both.
